Snapshot of Progress in 2003

We have again made good progress on the environment, health and safety aspects of our operations. Highlights include:

  • 77 of our 80 targeted manufacturing sites - 96 per cent - certified to ISO 14001
  • Stakeholder dialogue process used for the second year to help develop this report
  • Joined the UK Government’s ‘Make a Corporate Commitment’ group as a company publishing environmental reduction targets (see www.macc2.org.uk)
  • 45 per cent reduction in waste tonnage to landfill per £million sales since 2001
  • 24 per cent decrease in the number of accidents resulting in working days lost to the business since 2001
  • 72 major sites completed at least one comprehensive health and safety audit using our AuditMaster™ self-assessment tool since 2002
  • New corporate Director, EHS role and Group EHS Committee established
  • Independent assurance of our EHS report provided for the first time.

We have shown steady progress in our ratings, achieving a score of 69 per cent in the 2003 survey.
